Craftee's Elemental Escape
Project Lead • Systems Engineer | 12-person team | Released September 2025
Premise
Management wanted to make a large-scale adventure map for our sister company’s YouTube property, Craftee. To save on development time, they decided that the player should go on a mission to save Craftee instead of his character needing extensive AI behaviors to fight alongside you.
Next, other members of leadership and I brainstormed and outlined the five-dungeon gauntlet shown here.
Approach
Three level designers had creative freedom to create the greyboxing and subsequent visuals for the flow of each dungeon based on the requirements that leadership had outlined.
Then I led a team of developers to populate the dungeons with the various mechanics, enemies, and triggers that were required. This period also required us to work closely with the level design team to make revisions as needed.
Direct Contributions
In order to tutorialize the whole experience, I wrote over 80 lines of dialogue for Craftee to say based on player actions.
I also built various modular systems to help with consistency across the dev team when implementing mechanics and to help quickly test and iterate upon level flow.
My Systems
Here is every system I made for the project:
- World partitioning zone-based logic system
- Modular proximity-based enemy spawning system
- Mid-dungeon checkpoint system
- Voice over triggering and cutscene system
- Entity and environmental instancing system
(allowed for hot reloading the experience instead of waiting multiple minutes to rebuild everything)
