Lucky's Minigame Mayhem

Contributor • Versatility • Rapid Iteration | 18-person team | Released December 2022

Premise

This product was created in collaboration with Microsoft for their Minecraft 2023 New Year’s Celebration, to be released for free.

It was a collection of 15 themed minigames based on popular trends on the marketplace: Dragons, Furniture, TNT, Morphing, and Weapons.

My Contributions

As one of seven developers on the project, I took 3 of the 15 minigames upon myself to create. The games were:

  • Mounting a flightless dragon and shooting targets
  • Running around a furniture store to stand on various pieces
  • Piloting a TNT mech to fight waves of TNT mobs

Each game had vastly different unique game loops and requirements, not allowing me to reuse any code or system I made for each. This required me to work efficiently to complete all three before the deadline.

Execution

Every minigame had five separate environments they could take place in, requiring me to make the logic for each game very modular. I also worked with the level design team to make tweaks to each of the 15 environments I was responsible for.

Based on playtester feedback, I also had to balance the difficulty of each game and address complaints or suggestions they made to make the games more fun.

Conclusion

This was one of my favorite projects I ever worked on because of the variety of the tasks and the ownership I was able to exhibit over achieving the vision.

I am very proud of how my three distinct contributions turned out and what I was able to achieve within the strict timeframe of the project.
